Ninh Thuan: Over the period 11-14 June 2018 irrigation consultants from the Vietnam Academy for Water Resources worked with provincial irrigation management body and local representatives in Ninh Phuoc and Ninh Hai districts to discuss issues for irrigation service delivery and irrigation management. These consultant-service activities are being conducted as part of the Belgium-funded project on “Integrated water resource management and urban planning related to climate change in Ninh Thuan”. The consulting team is being led by Associate Professor Doan Doan Tuan who is the Vice Director of the irrigation management consultancy centre under the Vietnam Academy for Water Resources. The purpose for the activity is to strengthen the management capacity and operational performance of the irrigation system in Ninh Thuan province.
The working visit included discussions with stakeholders to survey and appraise the current irrigation management situation in Ninh Thuan. The experts discussed with the stakeholders about the co-operation mechanism between the Irrigation Works Exploitation Company with the people’s committees of the districts and their communes in the operation and management of irrigation systems at all levels.
The experts also worked with the province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, irrigation agency and the company about a draft on co-operation mechanisms in managing, using and protecting all the irrigation systems in Ninh Thuan, with a view to effectively responding to climate change and ensure sustainable development.
