A TRAINING COURSE ON THE APPLICATION OF MIKE SOFTWARE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF FLOOD MODEL FOR THE DINH RIVER BASIN, NINH THUAN PROVINCE

As part of the project for “Integrated water resource management and urban planning related to climate change in Ninh Thuan province” a training course was conducted in Phan Rang for local stakeholders. The main purpose of the training was to introduce the application of hydrological and hydraulic models to support in flood control and flood management.

As part of the project for “Integrated water resource management and urban planning related to climate change in Ninh Thuan province” a training course was conducted in Phan Rang for local stakeholders. The main purpose of the training was to introduce the application of hydrological and hydraulic models to support in flood control and flood management.

In order to create a tool to investigate the flood phenomenon in the context of current climate and under climate change conditions, a flood simulation model was developed by contractors for the Ninh Thuan MCDU, the Vietnam Academy for Water Resources.

Following the completion of main part of the study, results and technology transfer need to be implemented to assure the sustainability of the study. It is required that the results are easy to use, the flood model tool is readily updated and maintained, and other sectors are aware of its capability and its availability.

To satisfy the above mentioned expectations, a training course was conducted from 15-27 of July, with participants from provincial organizations such as: DONRE, DARD, IMC and MCDU.

The main topic of the training is instruction of MIKe by DHI software which consists of modules such as MIKE11, MIKE21, MIKE Urban and MIKE Flood. The software suited is product of Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI) from Denmark.

After the course, the participant’s skill will be improved, as well as fully understood of reservoir inflow prediction, early warning system and climate change adaptation.
